Rev. Arnold Damen, S.J. (1815-1890) was born in Holland, admitted to the Society of Jesus in November 1837 and later brought to America by Father DeSmet, renowned Jesuit missionary to the American Indians. Fr. Damen became a great missionary leader, and founder and organizer of the Jesuit Institutions of Chicago, Illinois.
